      CHAPTER SEVEN

      BIBLE BACKGROUND

      This chapter generally talks about the chronological history of the Bible. The chronological history of the Bible organizes Bible events that happened in proper order. (In the order of how the events happened).

      The history of the Bible has been divided into twelve major periods, which include;

      I. Creation to Abraham – involves creation of the universe, fall of man, Cain and Abel, Noah and Tower of Babel.

      II. Abraham to Moses- focuses on one man, Abraham, and his descendants.

      III. The Exodus- Abraham’s descendants (Israelites) depart from Egypt, the land in which they had been slaves for more than 400 years, led by Moses

      IV. The conquest- The Isralites posses their promised land,Canaan, led by Joshua

      V. Judges- God raised judges to rule the people of Israel

      VI. The kingdom- Kings started ruling the people in place of judges. Saul, David and Solomon reigned as kings during this period.

      VII. The two kingdoms- Israel split into two kingdoms after the death of Solomon.

      VIII. Judah alone- the kingdom of Israel was captured by the Assyrians, therefore the kingdom of Judah became the only kingdom

      IX. Captivity -Judah was also captured by Nebuchadnezer and taken to Babylon

      X. Restoration- Jerusalem and the temple were rebuilt in this period

      XI. The life of Christ- Decribes the life of Jesus Christ, from His birth to His death, to His resurrection. Jesus came to save the sinful mankind.

      XII. Apostles, who were previously Jesus’ disciples spread the gospel (good news of Jesus Christ), powered by the Holy Spirit.
