God’s deliverance of the righteous from the waters is a common image throughout the Bible. The author of Genesis 19 weaves in themes, words, and phrases from earlier stories to connect Lot’s story with the others and to provide an additional layer of commentary. The transfiguration presents Jesus as the greater Noah and the greater David—the one who opens the way back to the mountain of God.
