Chapter I: Knowing the Voice of God

The topic Knowing God’s Voice affirms four facts: 1. There is a God, 2. He communicates 3. Man can recognize His voice, and 4. God has something to say. That notwithstanding, there exists diverse voices namely, a) the voice of man, b) voice of Satan, c) voice of self and d) the voice of God.

When it comes to hearing the voice of God it is necessary to have a relationship with Him first. Anything that interferes with the relationship with God, sin being the main cause, interferes with a believer’s communication with God. Sin hardens a believer’s heart hindering him from hearing the voice of God.

There’s a close relationship between the will of God and the voice of God. The voice of God reveals the will of God. To seek God’s will, either His general plan for our lives or a specific direction for a specific situation, one has to learn to hear His voice. God is desirous for a believer to know His will. Additionally God’s voice is in His word both the written word, the Logos and the spoken living word – for specific situation for individual believer for specific situations – the Rhema word.

There are two hearers of the voice of God: the foolish and the wise. The fool hears the word only and does not act on what he has learnt but the wise hears and becomes a doer of the word received. The hearts of the hearers are categorized into four and exemplified as a land where the seed of the word is planted.

      1. Seeds that fell at the wayside and birds ate them away: the hearer hears and Satan takes away the word.

      2. Seeds that fell on the rocks and had no roots: the hearer hears and rejoices but lacing the roots, on appearance of offenses he falls away.

      3. Seeds that fell amongst thorns and got choked: the hearer hears and the word enters a heart full of cares of this world which choke it.

      4. Seeds that fell on good ground: the hearer hears and roots himself in that revelation, matures in the same and produces fruits based on the same word.
