Lesson 5: Leaders of the church

Church leadership positions in the bible are as follows:

1. Bishop, overseer or pastor Elder 1 Ti 3:1, 5:17-18,

Their duty is to rule the church, through the spirit of God. So he should be spiritually fruitful, christlike, humble,obedient and worthy of double honour..

This group if leaders are viable for financial honour ( salary)1 Ti5:18 because they teach the word of God, they feed the sheep. 1 Ti 3:8

Deacons: they are servants and focus on other duties like helping the vulnerable, finances, cleaning etc

Leadership qualifications

The bishop, overseer, elder should be: blameless, husband of one wife, temperate, sober minded, of goid behaviour, hospitable, able to teach, not flirtatious,not violent, not greedy for money, be gentle, ,not quarrelsome, not courteous and rule his own home.1 Ti 3:2, 4-5,matt 10:8

Deacons should be reverent, not double tongue, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of faith with a pure conscience .

Leadership priorities

A leaders priority is to spend time with the Lord in his word and prayer. Luke 10:38-42, acts 6:4, Note that God is not looking for special people but rather, he’s looking fir matured beings
