      Battle with the Tongue

The tongue is a powerful part of human life that can either bring life or cause destruction. The Epistle of James and Proverbs, describes the tongue as dangerous, difficult to control, and capable of harming both individuals and relationships. Sinful speech includes lying, gossiping, boasting, slander, murmuring, flattering, filthy communication, and words that create conflict or division. Such speech is seen as spiritually harmful because it reflects a corrupted heart.Words reveal what is inside a person’s heart, meaning good speech comes from a righteous heart while evil speech comes from sinful attitudes. To gain victory over the tongue, believers must seek God’s help and allow Him to transform their hearts. The topic encourages wise communication by speaking truthfully, listening carefully, avoiding unnecessary words, and using speech to encourage, comfort, and build others up. The “Nine-Question Filter” teaches people to think carefully before speaking by asking whether their words are truthful, beneficial, fair, necessary, and glorifying to God. The topic teaches that controlling the tongue is an important sign of spiritual maturity and godly character.
