CREATIVE BIBLE STUDY METHODS
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCING THE BIBLE
The Bible, which is the written word of the one true God, is a very interesting book (or collection of books) to study. In this particular chapter, what has imparted me the most is learning about its origin, it’s purpose and its unity.
Origin of the Bible
How the Bible came about is that God inspired different kinds of men over a certain period of time to write it. 40 different men were inspired by God to write the Bible over a period of 1500 years.
Purpose of the Bible
The scriptures (sacred writings) are used to teach doctrine, to reprove and correct one from evil and to teach righteousness. In so doing, the Bible helps one to live right and equip them to work for God.
Unity of the Bible
The Bible is united both in content and in theme. In content, even though there are many writers of the Bible, there are no contradictions. All the writers spoke about the many controversial subjects in harmony.
The Bible is also united by a major theme, which is the revelation of Jesus Christ as saviour of sinful mankind. In both the old and the new testament, people are saved through faith.
