The Enemy_Satan
Summary of Chapter 5
The topic represents a biblical overview of Satan as the main enemy in spiritual warfare. Satan was originally created by God as a holy and powerful angel, originally identified as Lucifer, meaning “light bearer.” He held a high position as a guardian or covering cherub and was wise, beautiful, and closely associated with heavenly worship. He was referred to as the gemstone. His beauty and glory reflected God, not himself.
Satan’s downfall came through pride and rebellion. He desired to exalt himself above God, rule the earth, receive God’s glory, and be like the Most High. Because of these ambitions, he was cast out of heaven. His fall also affected other angels, who followed him and became demons, forming an organized force of evil opposed to God.
As a result of his sin, Satan’s power became perverted and destructive. Sin entered the universe through his actions. Although God could have destroyed him immediately, He allowed Satan limited power on earth for a time. This was to revert any other rebellion in heaven in future.Satan is not omnipresent; he operates in the world and the spiritual realm with the help of demons and still has limited access to God’s presence. He presents himself before God as His sons do as he did as recorded in the book of Job. Satan is intelligent, deceptive, and dangerous, often disguising himself as an “angel of light.” However, his power is limited by God’s authority. God is omnipotent and provides protection and a way of escape for believers, who are warned to remain vigilant and rely on God’s strength. He is not Omniscient because if he was he would not have allowed Jesus to die on the cross and resurrect since this was to redeem mankind from sin and reconcile them to God.
