The Yaaqov story offers a raw look at human nature, with deception central to each of its three movements. Yaaqov’s story is a tragedy marked by his repeated scheming attempts to secure blessing for himself instead of trusting God and extending blessing to those around him. God’s words mark Yaaqov as the one chosen to carry forth the promise of blessing, but from the moment of his birth, Yaaqov’s character is shrouded in ambiguity and doubt.
