Yaaqov’s response subtly twists God’s promise of blessing and presence into a bargaining arrangement. Yaaqov seeing the gate of Heaven in a dream points to an awareness of heavenly realities not accessible to our conscious senses. Jesus envisions himself as the ramp that provides a way for Heaven and Earth to be united as one.
