Lesson 17: The suffering servant
Jesus , the messiah as prophesized in Isaiah 53 was the Lords deliverer who was destined to liberate Israel from captivity.
The controversy around the messiah is seen when the Jews refused to accept a suffering servant but fir a conquering King. They weren’t looking fir a messiah that was humble and lowly, but one that was mighty and powerful. They weren’t looking for a messiah to deliver them from their bondage of sin but from captivity.Isaish 52:13-15
But Isaiah believed a different report that he was going to come in a humble way Zach 9:9, Micah 5:2.
The jews in their synagogues skip the scripture in Isaiah 53 saying it was inserted by the christians but this accusation was cancelled when some writings of the old testament were discovered.
When Jesus was born jis power and his might was revealed John 12, Psalms 19:1 as he dud mighty works and signs.
Jesus’ s humility is so renowned Isa 53:1 , his appearance has no firm, no beauty infact his appearance demonstrates no royalty as would be expected of a King. Isa 53:2
Another attribute of Jesus was his grief and sorrow. isa 53:3, because those he came to save despised him, afflicted and tortured him.
It introduces us to the triumphant entry into Jerusalem which ended up in a terrible night mare to the physical eyes as he was humiliated in the end and crucified. like 19, Ro 9:2,
Jesus ‘s sorrows and sufferings were ours because we are his family.Isa 54:4, he was afflicted fir our sickness, pain ,grief and sorrows fir sun brings separation from God.
Jesus ‘s sorrow was fir our transgression, and our iniquity. Isa 54:5
He was afflicted for our peace Isa 54:5, Phi 4:7. He has made peace between us and God.
And finally he was bruised for our healing 1 Peter 2:24.
Jesus was afflicted fir us and by God. It was God who passed him through the fire so that our redemption might be effective. So the messiah came to fulfill the will of God John 4:34. He shall justifies because je fulfills the righteous requirement of the Law which is righteousness or perfection by his vicarious death on the cross.
Jesus gets the final victory Isa 54:12, over death and sun Ro 8:2 and today intercedes for us. isa 53:12, Luke 23:34 because satan is accusing us before God.
