Chapter Six: The Doctrine of Baptisms: Part 2 (Baptism of the Holy Spirit)

In this topic it has been realized how essential the Holy Spirit is in the life of a believer with many purposes of the Holy Spirit enumerated among them: praying for him, guiding him, comforting him, teaching him etc.

The evidence of baptism in the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer has been described as Witnessing and Spreading the Gospel of God; while the outward sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues. The purpose of tongues has also been expounded as:

      1. Praying to God

      2. Self-edification

      3. Edifying the church – when interpreted

      4. Intercession

      5. Sign to unbelievers

      6. Fulfillment of prophecy

      7. Praise

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are mentioned and their purposes described as: a. Perfecting of the saints; b. Promoting the work of the ministry; and c. Edifying the Church.

Finally the steps on how to receive the Holy Spirit are detailed as:

      1. Repenting and being baptised

      2. Believing it is for you

      3. Desiring it

      4. Realizing it is a gift

      5. Yielding to God

      6. Requesting the prayers of other believers: it can happen by the laying on of hands.

      • Right! It is good to note that no believer can operate without the Holy Spirit. Cultivating a Spirit-led life transforms a believer in totality.
