Chapter ten: Eternal Judgement
In this topic the word to judge is defined as ‘to separate’ or to ‘make difference between’. Eternal judgement therefore refers to the great and final judgement which will determine the final destiny of all souls. The standard for eternal judgement which will be conducted by God, the Father, Jesus Christ and the Saints is the Word of God.
The reasons for judgement are enumerated as a. Sins against God’s laws, b. Ungodliness, c. Unrighteousness, d. Unbelief, e. Trespass, f. All evil deeds. Additionally the eternal judgement is based on various principles: the Word of God, Non-partiality, Truth, Individuality, Knowledge of the word of God, Law, Righteous, Personal Conduct and also based on one’s Motives and Thoughts.
There are three times for judgement:
1. Past: This is already done and it involves the judgement of Satan and the World.
2. Present: This is continuous and it involves both living believers and unbelievers.
3. Future: This happens after death for both believers and unbelievers alike.
The three locations where the eternal judgement will take place are 1. The Judgment Seat of Christ; 2. The Throne of Christ’s Glory, and 3. The Great White Throne. Two categories of people will be judged during the eternal judgement: the believers and the unbelievers.
The believers will be judged based on their obedience and faithfulness to what God has given them and on their works and not on the basis of their education, spiritual gifts or any other external factor. The unbelievers will be judged and punished for their sins. The believers are destined to eternal life in God’s presence while the unbelievers are destined to eternal damnation in Hell.
This being the last of the six Foundations of Faith studied, it solidifies the call for a believer to live a holy life unto looking forward to spending eternity with God and being rewarded for the work he’ll have done in obedience to God.
