• INTRODUCTION TO THE HEBREW BIBLE

      MODULE 1-SESSION 6: The Prophet to Come-Psalms 1 & 2

I have learnt something powerful about the hyperlink between Malachi 4 and Psalms 1 and 2.

Psalms 1 and 2 is actually the continuation of Malachi 4 where there was a promised in coming of the Elijah like Prophet. According to Psalms 1, there is a general interplay which insists on following and meditating on the Torah where those who do that are called “blessed”. In fact the opening statement of Psalms 1 about blessing is the same closing line of Psalms 2. Further in Psalms 1 people are urged not to walk in the ways of sinners but remain upright by meditating in the Torah for it is only through that they will remain prosperous (hyperlinked to Joshua 1).

Furthermore, Psalms 2 introduces the Son of God and explain that he has been anointed to rule the nations by the rod of iron and that at the end the wicked shall be punished accordingly.

Finally we find that the way Christians understands the Hebrew Bible is quite different from what it means. The major aim of the Bible is to show that God has released his Spirit which is ready to empower people to do exploits.
