Knowing the Voice of God
Chapter 3: The Will of God
In the topic of the Will of God the term ‘Will’ is defined as power of choice. Further, ‘to will’ means to determine or decide on something based on this power of choice. Three ‘wills’ exist in the world today: man’s will, Satan’s will and God’s will. God’s will is classified into three:
1. Boulema – This is the predetermined sovereign will based on which the universe and nature operates. It requires no cooperation of man to be fulfilled.
2. Thelema – This is the will of God for each human being individually. When man seeks God’s will, he is seeking Thelema. Thelema requires the cooperation of man.
3. Moral will of God – This is the biblical documented instructions of how man ought to live and conduct his affairs on the earth.
NB:
– Thelema and Boulema never contradict the moral will of God.
– Jesus is our example and standard for believers in embracing and fulfilling God’s will for His life: total surrender.
The will of God is very important in that it leads to success, blessings, a good relationship with God, answered prayers, doctrinal soundness and clear direction in life as only God knows the future. Knowing and doing God’s will is a command from God for one to avoid chastisement. Finally, God’s will determines one’s eternal destiny either eternal life or eternal damnation.
In conclusion, the greatest motivation for obedience to God’s will is love as one is determined to please the object of his/her love always.
