Chapter three :Versions of the Bible
In this chapter I have learnt that the bible was written in three languages:Hebrew, Amaraic and Greek languages. The old testament was mostly written in Hebrew except some parts of Daniel and Nehemiah. New testament was in Greek language.
The word version means a Bible written in a language different from the original language, the Bible says “The lord gave a word and great was the company of those who translated it”Psalms 68:11.
I have learned the two types of versions of the Bible which is a translation and a paraphrase.
1. A Translation attempts to translate a bible from word to word like King James Bible.
2. A paraphrase attempts to give a meaning of a passage or thought to thought situation not a word to word and it is easy to understand.
David Mapugilo and Brain Mbuli-
I personally really value the work of Bible translation in general and the fact that various translators do a great job in bringing the ancient text to make meaning in our different cultural and linguistic contexts. Having Bibles throughout the translation spectrum has proven to be a great practice.
