MODULE 5: The Unit of Heaven and Earth

      SESSION 23: The Heavens

In the Bible, the heavens symbolize the dwelling place of God, the fountain of life, and the ultimate reality that surpasses human existence. While Scripture affirms that God’s presence fills the entire universe and nothing is hidden from Him (Psalm 36; Psalm 139), the heavens carry a special meaning as the unique seat of His glory and authority. They serve as a reminder of His transcendence and sovereignty, standing apart from the created order yet sustaining it. Importantly, the biblical story does not suggest that the destiny of humanity is to escape the earth and ascend into Heaven. Instead, it emphasizes that the heavenly realm, filled with God’s presence, will one day descend and transform the earth itself. The hope is not human relocation upward but divine renewal downward, where heaven and earth are united, and creation is restored to reflect God’s intended harmony, beauty, and eternal dwelling with humanity.
