ADAM TO NOAH
MODULE 4: SESSION 24: Key Takeaways from the Eden Story
The Hebrew words for “help” (ʿezer) and “skin” (ʿor) are strikingly similar, and this wordplay seems intentional. When God clothes the man and woman with animal skins after their failure in the garden, the covering itself can be seen as a diminished reflection of God’s original help. Humanity was created to live in unbroken partnership with God’s sustaining presence, but sin fractured that reality. Yet God’s response is not abandonment. Instead, He acts with mercy, providing a tangible covering that protects and sustains life in the midst of brokenness. The animal skins symbolize both loss and grace: a reminder of what has been diminished, yet also a sign of God’s ongoing care. Even in judgment, God extends kindness, offering a way forward for humanity. The story emphasizes that divine help remains present, though in altered form, as God continues to work with people despite their failure.
