Subject : Christology
Lesson 1 , session 1 introduction
The purpose is to present the person and work of Jesus christ from his preexistence to His second coming
A quote from book : The incomparable Christ “….. He came from the throne of the father to the womb of a woman. He put on humanity for us to put on divinity…….”
And “He never wrote a book yet non of the libraries can contain the books written about him ”
This passage makes a resounding emphasis on the unique person of Jesus Christ through a poetic account of his Life.
One day , David Hocking was visited by a Jewish medical doctor . He just wanted to know about Jesus. Though he grew up in a Jewish home , he heard about Jesus and wanted to know about him.
When the Jewish doctor was reading the new testament , something about Jesus never pleased him .
Going to His Jewish rabbi , he received the very evidence to Jesus’ messiahship as a contradiction from the rabbi. Part of the rabbi’s argument was that since the dynasty of David was cursed at the time of Jeconiah through Solomon ,the messiah couldn’t come through David.
Secondly he was not the son of Joseph Mary was a Virgin) meaning he was adopted into the tribe of Judah ( according to the Jewish rabbi). So he argued that Jesus couldn’t qualify to become the messiah since Joseph wasn’t Jis biological father.
How ever the rabbi is wrong ! Isaiah 9 verse 6 states the answer to this question very well :
“For unto us a child is born,
( this denotes the birth of Jesus Christ )
unto us a son is given;
( This denotes the adoption of Jesus Christ into the tribe of Judah , by Joseph)…His name shall be called Wonderful……”
As we know the messiah has to fulfil the adoption part of the prophecy , so , it was necessary for Joseph adopt Him.
The name Jesus comes from the Greek form lesous . This word is a transliteration ( not translated ) of the word Yehoshua ( abbreviated as Yeshua) .This same name is the name of the old testament Joshua.
The name Christ likewise , is from the Hebrew Ha Masheach , where Ha means the and masheach means anointed anointed .
Remember that Matthew was a Jewish and His target audience were Jewish communities, so, The book had a Jewish source and was translated to Greek for the whole world to read .
When witnessing to a Jew you don’t approach them terms like Jesus Christ , instead use Jewish terms like ( Yeshua Hamashiah) for their comprehension .
The name Yehoshua ( Yeshua ) means the Lord is salvation. The Ye is an abbreviation for Yahwe , the Holy name of God. Also the Hoshua part of the name is theone from which we get the statement of Praise Hosanna, meaning to say save now.
God promised Abraham “In thy seed..” why isn’t it plural ? The reason is He was referring to only one seed , JESUS CHRIST.
Those who were born before Jesus became a baby were still saved through Him because he still existed then . It’s only through Him that we are saved.2 Comments-
