MODULE 2: SESSION 5: God Calls Abraham and Promises Blessings

Avram’s call is framed in the language of Genesis 1-2, and it prepares the reader for the themes in the rest of his story—blessing, birth, land, family, and a great name. Avram leaving his family echoes Genesis 2:24 and the blessing of fruitful multiplication. God promises to make Avram’s name great, further developing the theme of names or naming introduced in various stories in Genesis 1-11. The stories about Nephilim and the people (eg. Babylon) wanted to make a name for themselves but for Avram it is God who is promising to make a name for him.
