Introduction to the Hebrew bible- sessions 19-21
I have come to understand that biblical narratives gives us a distinct characterization techniques. In the characteristics of biblical telling we have three areas of consideration.
The first is indirect characterization where biblical authors primarily reveals what a character is like through their actions and spoken words instead of explaining their thoughts.
Secondly the characters in the bible are normally prtrayed realistically and thus exhibiting a mixture of good and bad. This is what we call highly complex and flawed characters.
Lastly we have the selective and minimal details. In this the biblical narratives are found to be compact and omit some physicaland biographical details that the today readers would expect. Finally you find that when the text avoid explicit moral commentary, the readers are now left to judge the characters based on their choices and consequences.
