Exodus overview sessions 10-12
The significance of Miriam being called prophet in Exodus 15:20 taught me alot in the sessions.
I came to a realization that Miriam is the first woman in the bible to be given the title of a prophet. I noticed that this title of being a prophet placed her and her two brothers Moses and Aaron on an equal level in representing God and speaking on His behalf. In her prophetic role Miriam was dealing with worship and spiritual leadership. And in this role she led the hebrew women in song and dance of victory. It is through this worship and dance that she moved the children of Israel from fear to faith in celebrating God’s triumph. We also learn that by honouring Miriam as a prophet speaks of spiritual authority and gifts bestowed upon women of the covenant.
