It was nice to have learned about the Hebrew ebedim(servant). From the onset it looked like the Israelites endorsed slavery but when i dug deep into the studies from Exodus 21 i found that it was far from that. The ebedim functioned as a protective regulations laid down to protect the vulnerable people from exploitation by the mighty and powerful.

You find that in slavery the slave had no right. He could be handled any howly but in the ebedim the servant has some rights. In normal slavery their is no set time for freedom while in the ebedim there is an agreed period of service after which the servant is allowed to leave if he so wishes.
